Rohny Elevators: Elevator Software in Maharashtra
Rohny Elevators: Why a Four-Region Maharashtra Lift Company Stopped Trialling Software
By Mr. Sumeet Katariya, ElevatorPlus ·
In short: Most lift companies that trial software learn very little from the trial, because they test a generic tool on generic tasks. Rohny Elevators runs Nashik, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Ahilyanagar and Pune / Pimpri-Chinchwad. It took trials with several software companies and found nothing built for lift work. It stopped trialling once it found elevator software in Maharashtra that was set up around its own processes, with its team trained on it. Test fit on your own jobs, not features on a demo.
Key takeaways
- A trial on a generic tool tests the wrong thing. Rohny took trials with several software companies. The consistent gap: nothing was designed around how a lift company works.
- Growth breaks the manual method before it breaks the team. As projects and manpower grew, keeping account of everything became, in the Managing Director's words, "very complicated".
- Four regions need one record, not four. Rohny now runs all four of its Maharashtra regions from one centralised system.
- Job-wise expenses and material were the missing control. Dashboards, account summaries, job-wise expenses and material management were set up so management stops chasing numbers from people.
- Implementation decides the result, not the login. Rohny had online support during setup, then on-site training once the team asked for depth.

Why does elevator software in Maharashtra so often fail the trial?
Count the software trials your company has started in the last few years. Then count the ones that changed how a single breakdown gets handled. For most lift companies the second number is zero.
The trial usually fails for a plain reason. Someone in the office gets a login, tries a few screens, and goes back to the register when the first busy week arrives. The tool was never loaded with your lifts, your AMCs or your jobs. So the trial measured whether the screens looked sensible, not whether the system could run your company.

Who is Rohny Elevators?
| Detail | Rohny Elevators |
|---|---|
| Company | Rohny Elevators Pvt. Ltd. |
| State | Maharashtra, India |
| Regions | Nashik, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Ahilyanagar, Pune / Pimpri-Chinchwad |
| Leader | Mr. Rohan Deshpande, Managing Director |
| What they run | Lift projects and service across four regions |
What was breaking at Rohny?
When Rohny started, the operation was manageable. Then projects increased, and manpower increased with them. Keeping a running account of every job, every person and every expense became complicated. A large share of management time went into collecting and reconciling information from people and records.
That is the cost most owners never count. It does not show up as a loss on any statement. It shows up as a Managing Director who spends his best hours asking for updates instead of winning work.
Spread that across four regions and the problem compounds. Nashik, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Ahilyanagar and Pune / Pimpri-Chinchwad each generate their own jobs and their own questions. Without one shared record, every answer depends on a phone call to the right person.
There is a compliance calendar on top of the commercial one. In Maharashtra the live law is still the Maharashtra Lifts Act 1939 with the Bombay Lift Rules 1958. Section 11 requires every lift to be inspected at least once in six months. We have explained why Maharashtra's 2017 lift Act has never come into force separately.
What did Rohny look at before choosing?
Rohny did not buy the first thing it saw. It approached several software companies and took trials.
The problem was the same each time. The market had plenty of generic maintenance platforms. None was designed around elevator processes. A generic platform can log a task. It does not know what an AMC is. It does not know how a lift project moves from site survey to handover. It does not track material against a specific job.
Here is the difference between what a generic trial checks and what a lift company actually needs to check.
| What a generic trial tests | What a lift company needs to test |
|---|---|
| Can I create a task and assign it? | Can a breakdown on a specific lift reach the right technician without a phone call? |
| Does it have a dashboard? | Does the dashboard show open complaints, AMC expiries and job costs by region? |
| Can I add customers? | Can each customer hold several lifts, each with its own AMC and history? |
| Can I record an expense? | Can I see expenses and material against each job, so I know if the job made money? |
| Is there a mobile app? | Will my technicians use it in their own language on a busy day? |
| Can I export a report? | Can a region manager answer the owner's question without calling anyone? |
The left column is what most demos show. The right column is what decides whether you still use the system in month four.
What changed when Rohny moved to ElevatorPlus?
ElevatorPlus was implemented as the central system across all four regions. That meant one record for the company, with each region working inside it rather than keeping its own sheets. Running several regions or branches from one system is the part that removed most of the phone calls.
What was set up:
- Dashboards and statistics, so management sees the state of operations without asking.
- Account summaries, so the commercial position per customer is visible.
- Job-wise expenses, so each job carries its own cost record.
- Material management, so material is tracked against each job instead of in a separate register.
- Processes designed around a lift company, rather than a generic template bent to fit.
The support came in two stages. During the first implementation stage, Rohny had online support whenever the team called. Once the team had gone deeper into the system, it asked for offline training, and that was delivered on site.
The result Rohny describes is practical. Important business information now sits at management's fingertips instead of being collected from different people. Job-wise expenses and material management brought an area of the business under control that had been missing.
What does the owner say?
"When we started, it was fine. But as projects increased and manpower increased, keeping account of all these things became very complicated, and a lot of energy was going into it, energy that would give far more benefit if it went into productive work. We went to several software companies and took trials, but the software an elevator company actually needs simply was not available. There are generic maintenance platforms in the market, but elevator software has been given for the first time by ElevatorPlus, and as we use it, we realise how much depth it has. They didn't just hand over the system and leave; they actually taught our team to use it and implemented it. Every elevator company should use this software. If you get your base right, only then can you build something bigger on top of it. I would thank the ElevatorPlus team, an Indian company, from our own Maharashtra, that can support us this way, set everything up systematically, and design the processes for us."

Two lines in that quote matter more than the praise. "They didn't just hand over the system and leave" is the reason most trials fail. "If you get your base right, only then can you build something bigger" is the reason to bother at all.

What can any lift company copy this week?
You do not need to buy anything to run a better evaluation. These five steps work with any vendor.
- Pick one region and one month of real work. Pull last month's breakdowns, AMC visits and one live project from a single region. That is your test set. Do not test on invented data.
- Write down the five questions you ask most often. "Which complaints are still open?" "Which AMCs expire this quarter?" "What has this job cost so far?" If a system cannot answer them, it does not fit.
- Put the vendor on the hook for setup. Ask who loads your data, who configures your processes and who trains your technicians. A login and a help video is not an implementation.
- Test with the people who will use it. Give it to one technician and one office person, not just the owner. Their resistance in week one tells you more than any feature list.
- Check job-wise cost before anything else. If you cannot see expenses and material against a job, you cannot see which jobs lose money. That is usually the most expensive blind spot.
How ElevatorPlus handles this ?
ElevatorPlus does not run trials. A login with an empty account would test the wrong thing, for the reasons above. Instead, you can book as many demo calls as you need, on your own processes, before deciding.
Once you decide, our team does the setup. Most customers are fully live within 2 to 7 days, with data migration, configuration and team training included. Technicians can use the mobile app in 18 languages, including Marathi and Hindi, on Android and iOS.
Frequently asked questions
1. Why do most lift companies learn nothing from a software trial?
Because the trial runs on an empty account with no lifts, AMCs or jobs loaded. It tests whether screens look sensible, not whether the system can run the company. Test on one region's real work instead.
2. Where does Rohny Elevators operate?
Rohny Elevators Pvt. Ltd. operates across four regions of Maharashtra: Nashik, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Ahilyanagar, and Pune / Pimpri-Chinchwad. Mr. Rohan Deshpande is the Managing Director.
3. What did Rohny find wrong with the other software it tried?
It took trials with several software companies and found generic maintenance platforms, but nothing designed around elevator processes. It needed software built for how a lift company actually works.
4. What did ElevatorPlus set up for Rohny?
A central system across all four regions, with dashboards and statistics, account summaries, job-wise expenses and material management. Processes were designed around a lift company rather than a generic template.
5. Does ElevatorPlus offer a trial?
No. ElevatorPlus does not run trials. You can book as many demo calls as you need on your own processes. Most customers are fully live within 2 to 7 days, with data migration, configuration and training included.
6. Which lift law applies in Maharashtra?
The Maharashtra Lifts Act 1939 and the Bombay Lift Rules 1958. Section 11 requires every lift to be inspected at least once in six months. The 2017 Act has never come into force.
7. How was the Rohny team trained?
In two stages. Online support during the first implementation stage, whenever the team called. Then offline, on-site training once the team had gone deeper into the system and asked for it.

Rohny did not stop trialling because it got tired of looking. It stopped because it finally found a system built for lift work, set up by people who stayed to implement it.
Most failed trials are not a verdict on the software. They are a verdict on the method. An empty account and a busy week will defeat any system.
If you are evaluating software for a lift company in Maharashtra or anywhere else, change the test. Use your own region, your own jobs and your own people. Ask who does the setup. Then judge.
